Human

Its funny how good and evil can coexist in one, and surprisingly, with little conflict.

That's life isn't it? Full on ironies.

Humans are hypocritical creatures by nature. We lust, greed, pander to our own desires. We change to suit various situations. We adapt. We betray, gossip, back stab.

Why?

I don't know. I always thought we were born this way. Only our surroundings and upbringing change us.

What friendship? More like win-win situations. And eternal love? Please, stop denying reality.

The current world is all about Darwinism; survival of the fittest. One must constantly improve one's standards, seek for more and not lose out. How do we achieve this? By any means, I tell you. "Good honest, cultured m
en die young" some say.

I am not writing this post to propagate the need for underhanded means to survive. No, rather, I am just reflecting my thoughts on us, human beings.

Humans are complex creatures. On one hand, able to perform great acts of charity. On the other, capable of the most underhan
ded means of betrayal. It's a constant battle that rages within all of us-within the better angels of our nature and the temptation of our inner demons. And sometimes, the only way to ward off the darkness... is to shine the light of compassion.

  1. I believe it is a pessimistic way of looking at things - at how we have to contend with the fact that evil and good must coexist together. I prefer to believe that the good will triumph over evil :)

  2. Dear Ms Soh,

Of course. It is certainly good to think optimistically. But sometimes, when one is feeling exceptionally down or has just experienced the rough eide of life, I think it is inevitable to feel a little pessimistic.

    Thank you.

  3. Perhaps humans never were meant to be like this. When man was first created, I can say that they would have never imagined that their future generations would be like this, cruel, nihilistic beings without one iota of humanity.

Change brings along good and evil. Evidently evil seems to be benefiting from change.

  4. Dear little ex Monitor

I also feel that this is a pessimist's viewpoint about humans. But I agree with it. And I believe your good friend Hui Ming does too. We were created with an unsatiable greed to obtain what we wanted, to be the best.

I have let my desire to be the best take me over before. I made plenty of enemies when that happened.

This is why I agree with the fictional character I quote on FB sometimes, that "This is mankind's dream, mankind's desire, mankind's destiny! To be the strongest, to go the farthest, to climb the highest... To compete, to envy, to hate each other, and to devour one another!" Inevitable, and human nature at times, I presume.
